Silver Pen is coming! It tumbles and rolls and wobbles, but make no
mistake, it is coming, and it will change the way we look at writing,
reviewing, editing and publishing. It will provide the underpinning and
foundation needed for quick, easy and meaningful reviews. Writers,
editors and publishers will mingle in a friendly forum keyed to improve
all phases of what we, as writers, do. Don’t know where to submit something? You’ll be able to ask experienced writers and editors. Know something’s missing from your story? Let other members critique and comment in an accessible, easy to use format. Need to find an agent? a publisher?
We will be able to help.
Silver Pen is the brainchild of Karl Rademacher and its development is supported by a wide variety of people, including writers and other publishers. It is an IRS recognized non-profit organization conceived and incorporated to support all kinds of writers: novice, experienced, young, old. Anyone or any organization with a writing monster begging for attention can be a member.
Because of its non-profit status, Silver Pen will be able to apply for and accept grants to perform outreach programs to writers and publishers. Some of the services will include a free internet peer review process and a free registry for curriculum vitae of works written by Silver Pen members. We will also help members get published, whether they are looking at flash, short stories, novellas or full length novels.
In this day and age of bloom-and-bust online magazines, competition is fierce, especially the competition for funds that allow publishers to pay their contributors and keep their magazines in operation. And without funds, writers can't get paid. Writers work hard to develop stories that are entertaining, meaningful and engaging. But most writers struggle financially and do not have the means to support all of the myriad publications they submit to, which means that the publications suffer financially. The lack of capital by the publications and the financial struggles of the writers create a downward spiral, dooming both.
This is where grants and funding obtained through our non-profit status can help. We will help member publishers obtain the funding to support and encourage writers.
In addition, Silver Pen will establish and insist on a code of profession conduct for all members. We will also seek out other online writing sites that we feel meet our high expectations and standards, and award them with the Silver Pen Excellence Award to promote and propagate high quality online publications.
What is the status of Silver Pen, you may ask? We've had a busy year. Our primary goal of getting recognition as a charity by the IRS finally came to fruition in November. We now have a dedicated server, custom built and supported by Karl. It has the capability of supporting member publication websites, writing and social forums, and databases of publications and agents. Soon, it will be released to the public. Soon, this system will be open for business. A second server is already online. it is dedicated exclusively to handling our email (this means we don't have to rely on or pay for a hosted solution). It can handle email for any member publication or writer who desires to use it's services. Both systems reside at office space graciously donated by one of Silver Pen's trustee's, attorney John Krupa.
So keep your eyes here. Silver Blade is the first publication of Silver Pen. Others will follow. Silver Pen will grow until its life blood seeps into every aspect of the internet and of writing.
Watch as we take over the world, one mind at a time.
