Landing on Island 2

by Julie Kovacs

Blue paint splattered on a stone floor
skeletal vines forming a winding staircase
up to a second sky
appearing orange during the day and
mossy green at night
when the artist below choreographs

four gargoyles in the courtyard
staring at five marbles spinning below
followed by a jump rope whipping around
while a tortoise cat
catches and runs away with it.
