The Plague Tree



When Eve bit the apple she bit hard
hard enough to get a mouth full of seeds

which of course

she spit back into the Earth
turning black under her feet


In the end
The Fall sounded like the shackled breath of Orion
or the steady pitch of the world screaming on its axis

Or maybe it was just Eve
biting through the core
